Over 75 events are being held in August to celebrate Madras Day / Chennai Dinam 2023
Of these, there are over 15 Heritage Walks and 20 Talks held at venues across the city. In Chepauk and Royapettah, in Washermanpet and Taramani, in Royapuram and George Town. There are also Walks inside Madras High Court and Fort St. George.
This year, there are more events for children and school students. There is PhotoWalk to be held on August 27 morning in Royapettah. A Quiz for Thamizh medium schools on August 26 evening in Luz. A tour of Madras Museum in Egmore on August 26 evening.
The unique feature of Madras Day celebrations is that each event is planned and held by different citizen groups, schools and colleges, clubs and associations or even individuals. It is not an event organised by one group or company.
This year, Greater Chennai Corporation is organising many events based on the city. There are music shows in public parks, contests for youths and the public and many other events.
Chennai Metro too is a partner in some events.
The Hindu newspaper has organised a series of events – exhibitions of photos of Madras at Chennai Metro stations, music shows, food fests and heritage walks.
Colleges are also holding events. Stella Maris, Sri Kanyaka Parameswari College for Women and Womens Christian College are holding events. A group of students of Sri Kanyaka Parameswari College for Women in Sowcarpet are to hold a Mint Street Tour on August 27 evening.
