‘Thug Life’: Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s film plot, censor, and runtime revealed

The trailer of Thug Life has set the internet buzzing, especially among fans of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam – two cinematic legends reuniting after over two decades. The pan-Indian action drama is all set to hit the big screens on June 5, 2025, and the promotional campaign is already gaining strong momentum.

In a fresh update, the makers have locked the film’s runtime at 2 hours and 45 minutes (165 minutes). For an intense and high-stakes action narrative, the duration feels just right – promising enough space for drama, spectacle, and emotional heft. The movie is certified U/A.

Featuring a powerful ensemble cast including Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Sanya Malhotra, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf, Baburaj, and others, Thug Life is mounted on a massive scale. The film is produced by Raaj Kamal Films International, Madras Talkies, and Red Giant Films.

‘Thug Life’ reunites legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam with Kamal Haasan for the first time since their iconic 1987 collaboration, ‘Nayakan.’ The film is also co-written by the duo. Adding to the excitement is the film’s technical brilliance,  Ravi K. Chandran serves as the cinematographer, and Sreekar Prasad is in charge of editing. Adding to the anticipation is the musical genius of AR Rahman, who scores the soundtrack for this grand venture.

As anticipation builds, the makers are leaving no stone unturned in promoting ‘Thug Life.’ The second single from the film, titled ‘Sugar Baby,’ is set to drop on May 21, 2025, giving fans another taste of Rahman’s electrifying score. Meanwhile, the official audio launch event is scheduled for May 24, expected to be a grand affair featuring the lead cast and crew.
